Center of Power*
is about turnout, and about using the internal hip muscles to rotate your entire leg. This is an isolation exercise.ion exercise
• Engage your horizontal belly muscle and your glutes. Keep refreshing this internal connection.
• You can watch the BellyUp video (in the list at the left) to refresh your understanding of lifting the belly muscle called transverse abdominus.
• It is essential to understand that the turnout of the leg has nothing to do with how turned out your foot is.
• Regardless of whether your foot is turned out (or in) when you stand normally, strive to ignore the foot's position while learning how to rotate your leg from inside the hip, for a proper turnout.
• The video will help you understand that rotating the leg happens from above, and not from taking a position with your foot.
At first when we practice certain movements, we have to apply extreme deliberation to the process.
But after a while, muscle memory kicks in, and it will begin to feel good when that horizontal muscle is engaged. You won't have to struggle to use it once you have strengthened it.
